Gong Zheng, mayor of Shanghai, said he welcomes Spanish enterprises to make the most of the China International Import Expo to expand their business operations in Shanghai and enhance economic and trade cooperation during his meeting with Marta Betanzos, Spanish ambassador to China, on March 22.

Gong said that since Shanghai and Barcelona became sister cities in 2001, they have engaged in extensive cooperation and exchanges in areas such as culture, education, smart city building, and port development and achieved strong results.

Noting that next year marks the 20th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Spain, Gong said that Shanghai is willing to further deepen its pragmatic cooperation with Spain.

Betanzos said Spain is willing to participate in the seventh CIIE and she hopes the country will establish closer relations with Shanghai in sectors including the economy, trade, industry, energy, culture and tourism.
